Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of the most significant artists of our time, has had a prolific career for over four decades. From his techno-pop hit phase, until he became an Oscar-winning composer, the evolution of his music has gone hand in hand with the different paths he has taken in life.
When faced with such a critical time in his life when he was diagnosed with a throat cancer, Sakamoto took a break in his career and shared his thoughts with the camera regarding his social concerns and artistic life experiences. Using strategically documented material, this elegant and unhurried film goes on a journey through his beginnings all the way through the music he has composed as a response to September 11 and the war on Iraq. His anti-war and anti-nuclear beliefs are on display on a piano that survived the Fukushima catastrophe. The result is an artist who keeps on enjoying every sound discovery he makes as much as a child would, as a poetic reflection of creation, overall, a tribute to life.
