Detailed programming

The concerts of the 19th Lanzarote Visual Music Festival will kick off on Thursday, October 10 at the Sala Buñuel of the CIC El Almacén with the premiere of the innovative Touch-Me-Not project, the latest proposal by Hara Alonso, known for her fusion of electronic sounds and visuals, which will offer an immersive experience that explores the interaction between music and digital art. Accompanied by the visuals of Miguel G. Morales and the voice of Ellen Soderhult, this proposal will blur the boundaries between different forms of artistic expression, creating a unique sensory environment.

On Saturday, October 12, Mario Batkovic will perform at the Cueva de los Verdes Auditorium at 8:00 pm. Batkovic, with his innovative approach to the accordion, will offer a solo performance that challenges the conventions of the instrument. His distinctive technique and style revolutionize the accordion in contemporary music, providing a performance that will capture the audience’s attention with his technical mastery and creativity.

On Wednesday, October 16, the Anouar Brahem Quartet will bring its influences of jazz and Arabic music to the Jameos del Agua Auditorium at 8:00 pm. Led by the celebrated oudist Anouar Brahem, the quartet will offer a sophisticated evening fusing oriental rhythms with elements of contemporary jazz, creating an evocative listening experience. This will be the third time that the Tunisian musician has been part of the Festival’s program, after his participation in 1996 and 2000.

On Thursday, October 17, Björn Meyer will present his project “Provenance” at the Cueva de los Verdes Auditorium at 8:00 pm. Meyer, known for his work with the six-string electric bass, will fuse classical music with contemporary elements in a deep and emotional performance, highlighting his ability to transform the sound of the bass into a tool for musical exploration.

On Friday, October 18, the Sala Buñuel at CIC El Almacén will host URHO at 20:00h. URHO, known for its innovative approach to electronic music and real-time visuals, will present a performance that seamlessly combines sound, image and technology, creating an immersive sensory experience and challenging the audience’s expectations.

The festival, in collaboration with the Festival Contemporáneo del Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias of the Government of the Canary Islands, will conclude on Saturday, October 19 with an outstanding performance. At 8:00 pm, the orchestral formation Echo Collective will offer its particular tribute to Radiohead’s “Amnesiac” album at the Jameos del Agua Auditorium. Their unique reinterpretation of this iconic work will combine elements of classical music with Radiohead’s distinctive sound for a thrilling listening experience.

Commitment to musical cinema

The 19th Lanzarote Visual Music Festival is also enriched by a carefully selected film program that explores the intimate connection between music and cinema.

Cabin Music, directed by James Carson, will be screened on Wednesday, October 9 at 8:00 pm in the Buñuel Room at CIC El Almacén. This documentary, which combines personal narrative with music, follows the transformative journey of Carson, who, driven by a spiritual crisis, leaves the conservatory to build a cabin in the Canadian wilderness. Cabin Music offers a lyrical feast that defies genre conventions, serving as a profound testament to the transcendent power of music and nature.

Already on Tuesday, October 15 at 8:00 pm, also at the Sala Buñuel, Ryūichi Sakamoto: OPUS, directed by Neo Sora, will be presented. This moving documentary captures the last performance of revered Japanese composer Ryūichi Sakamoto. Filmed by his son, the concert presents Sakamoto in an intimate setting without an audience, offering an introspective review of his career.
